On August 18, 2023, the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh, laid the foundation for extension of Lakhisarai’s sub-station of 400/132 kV which has been built by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The sub-station is located in Lakhisarai, Bihar.
The project will include the installation of two 500 MVA-capable transformers and the construction of a 220 kV GIS within the grounds of an existing sub-station. The aim of the extension is to augment power availability in the Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Munger and Jamui districts along with meeting electricity needs of the future. This initiative will benefit Bihar as a whole. The region’s industrial and commercial development will also be facilitated by the provision of an uninterrupted electricity supply.
In order to strengthen the electricity distribution infrastructure, the central government has taken a number of measures and provided the necessary funding to the states. Since appropriate systems for electricity generation and transmission have been put in place, there will be no need for load shedding. The government has introduced law requiring distribution license holders to compensate consumers who violate performance standards.
