International Conference on Biomass Densification: Leading Towards Sustainable Energy Solutions supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy

IFGE: Biomass Global Associates Forum (BGAF) has organized International Conference on Biomass Densification: Leading Towards Sustainable Energy Solution supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India at New Maharashtra Sadan, K G Marg, New Delhi on August 09, 2023.

Shri Bhagawanth Khuba, Hon’ble Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy & Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India & Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power & Heavy Industries, Government of India has inaugurated the conference.

In the inaugural address Hon’ble Minister Shri Bhagawanth Khuba mentioned that India working aggressively on Bioenergy and introduced the scheme of Rs. 858 crores for Bioenergy. He also mentioned that there is tremendous scope for Biomass in India and many thermal power plants are using the Biomass in Co-firing. According to Hon’ble Minister Government is working aggressively to mitigate the challenges faced by the biomass sector.

Hon’ble Minister Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar mentioned that India is an agrarian economy the biomass sector is providing new opportunities for various stakeholders and farmers. Presently 47 Thermal power plants are using 2.1 lakh Metric Tonnes of Biomass in Co-firing. We are working towards the use of biomass and there are several benefits involved like Save Coal, Reduction in Co2 Emission, Opportunities for Pellets Processors and Transporters, increase income for farmers, enhancement in soil quality due to non-firing of Agri waste, Reduction in Pollution, Use in Construction, MNRE is promoting the use of Biomass by Providing Subsidies, Priority Sector Lending announced by RBI for Biomass Sector.

The Conference had a discussion on policy reforms, supply chain management, technological advancements in R & D, boiler compatibility, equipment’s for biomass processing, opportunities for farmers, emerging market for Biomass: Pellets & Briquettes, Incentives & Financing available in India, Skill Development & Employment Scenario.

The Conference was addressed by more than 30 dignitaries including; Shri P K Mishra, Executive Director, NTPC Limited, Shri Dinesh Jagdale, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, Shri Dhiraj Kumar Srivastava, Chief Engineer (TE & TD), Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Shri Sudip Nag, Mission Director SAMARTH & Executive Director Biomass, NTPC Limited, Mrs. Debjani Bhatia, General Manager (Technical Service), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA) and representative from SBI, SSS NIBE, IREDA, SIDBI, Skill Councils for Green Jobs, LanzaTech.

There were around 200 delegates participated in the conference including Manufacturers of Biomass Pellet and Briquettes, Machines, representative from Thermal Power Plants, Cement Companies, Steel Companies, Refinery, Textile, Food & Beverages would be participating the conference. Diplomats, Officials from Ministries, PSUs and trade bodies will also participate in the conference.

Organizations like State Bank of India (SBI), NTPC Limited, Livgreen Cleantech, TERI, National Council for Cement and Building Materials and Renewable Watch (Magazine) has supported this conference.
