NTPC REL wins 80 MW floating solar project in Madhya Pradesh

NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has secured a 80 MW floating solar project at a ceiling tariff of Rs 3.8 per kWh. The project is situated in Omkareshwar Reservoir, Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh. The project has been won under tariff-based competitive bidding. The tender was issued by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, a joint venture company of Solar Energy Corporation of India and MP Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. The power produced from the project will be utilised by state distribution companies in Madhya Pradesh.

NTPC’s floating solar capacity will be 342 MW with the completion of the project. Currently, NTPC has an operational renewable energy capacity of 3.3 GW, while a capacity of 20 GW is under construction which includes 4 GW of energy storage systems.

Recently, in August 2023, NTPC REL received a letter of intent for a 550 MW solar project. The project is a part of a 1,250 MW inter-state transmission system connected solar tender awarded by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited at a tariff of Rs 2.56 per kWh.

In June 2023, NTPC REL republished the tender for the supply of battery energy storage systems for solar power projects in the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat’s Kutch region.
