HPCL plans a green hydrogen facility in Andhra Pradesh

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is implementing a green hydrogen project at Visakh refinery in the state of Andhra Pradesh according to a written reply to a Lok Sabha question by the Rameswar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas. The said project will have an electrolyser capacity of 370 tonne per annum.

HPCL has spent Rs 110 million out of a total allocation of Rs 330 million on the project already. The project is expected to be commissioned by September this year.

In May 2023, HPCL requested proposals from contractors to establish two solar projects totaling 3.6 MW in the Karnataka towns of Yediyur and Hiriyur. The company has issued two tenders for capacities of 1.7 MW and 1.9 MW. In January 2023, NTPC Green Energy Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HPCL for development of renewable energy based power projects to tap business opportunities in renewable energy. The MoU intends to supply 400 MW round the clock renewable power to cater to the requirements of HPCL.
