EDP Renovaveis SA, majority owned by utility EDP, has completed the installation of a 1.9 MWp distributed generation (DG) solar energy system in Malaysia. The DG system was built for leasing company PE Land Sdn Bhd on the roof of the largest shopping centre in the country, located in the state of Penang. The PV array is comprised of 3,584 solar panels and has the capacity to generate more than 2.86 million kWh of electricity annually. It is underpinned by a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
EDPR currently owns 7 MWp of installed solar in Malaysia, with an additional 1.4 MWp of projects under construction. Through its Asia Pacific-focused unit EDPR APAC, the energy giant plans to develop over 1.2 GW of installed capacity between 2023 and 2026.
In march 2023, First Solar received a multi-year order from EDPR to supply advanced thin film photovoltaic solar modules with a total capacity of 1.8 GW direct current. The photovoltaic modules will be installed across all power initiatives created by EDPR North America in the US, with deliveries scheduled to happen until 2028. In terms of installed capability, North America is regarded as the largest market for EDPR.
