Statkraft secures two PPAs totalling 76 MW in Europe

Statkraft has signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Sonnedix and BayWa r.e. in Europe totaling 76 MW. Statkraft secured a 34 MW solar PPA for two solar projects developed by Sonnedix in Italy, as well as a 42 MW wind PPA with BayWa r.e. in Scotland, UK. It will provide 48 GWh of green electricity in Italy, enough to power 18,000 homes and prevent 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The two solar projects are in Lazio, which is located in the west of the central region of Italy.  The two companies agreed to PPAs in 2022 for a 22 MW solar portfolio across the country. In addition, Statkraft signed a 10-year PPA with BayWa r.e. to buy power from its Dalquhandy wind farm, located on a restored former opencast coal mine in South Lanarkshire, Scotland.

In April 2023, Statkraft signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NextEnergy Capital’s photovoltaic fund, NextPower III ESG, in Portugal. The green energy would be obtained from three photovoltaic solar plants that are presently under construction and have an installed capacity of 210 MW. The three solar farms, which are held by NextPower III ESG, are situated in the municipalities of Cartaxo, Casal do Paul, and Encarnado in the Santarém district.
