PEDA establishes energy action plan

The Punjab Department of New and Renewable Energy (PEDA) has announced the Punjab State Energy Action Plan to promote energy efficiency across buildings, industry, municipalities, agriculture, transportation, and other sectors. The action plan aims to assist government departments and agencies in implementing the most sustainable, long-term, and cross-sectoral renewable and clean energy programmes possible. Amritsar will be transformed into a solar city.

In addition, the state launched a decision support tool, an Amritsar smart city portal, and a renewable purchase obligations portal. PEDA has also inked an agreement with GIZ’s IGEN Access to Energy initiative, which is supported by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to seek technical assistance from an experienced team of consultants and representatives from over 20 ministries and organisations.

Recently, PEDA issued a request for proposals to commission 7 MW of grid-connected rooftop and ground-mounted solar installations for government buildings throughout Punjab, including Chandigarh. According to the tender guidelines, the bidders must submit Rs 1 million as an earnest money deposit.
