Ørsted, PGE select contract engineer for Baltica offshore wind farm

Baltica Offshore Wind Farm developers PGE and Ørsted have formalised the partnership for the offshore wind project’s land connection, which includes Biuro Studiów, Projektów i Realizacji (EnergoprojektKatowice) and Energopomiar. According to the agreement, the consortium will oversee the general contractor’s work as an investor as the line and station portions of the onshore connection are being built. According to the timeline, Baltica Offshore Wind Farm’s phases, including Baltica 2 (1.5 GW) and Baltica 3 (1 GW), will be launched by the end of this decade.

The onshore connection for the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm is planned for Osieki Lęborskie, a village in the municipality of Choczewo, in the Pomorskie voivodeship’s Wejherowo poviat. The consortium will be responsible for monitoring the general contractor’s work’s quality and progress. Additionally, it will be in charge of inspections, factory acceptance tests, and recurring health and safety inspections.

In April 2023, Ørsted signed a memorandum of understanding with Acciona’s infrastructure division to assess options for large-scale floating wind foundations. The two would look into the mass production of floating platforms with an emphasis on minimising the floating wind levelised cost of electricity and their environmental footprint. In order to support the pipeline of floating wind projects being built in the area by the Danish company, they would collaborate to industrialise the production of concrete foundations and create a European supply chain.
