Greenvolt and Bluefloat partner to construct floating wind projects off the Portugal coast

Greenvolt, a renewable energy firm, has teamed up with Bluefloat Energy to construct offshore wind projects off the coast of Portugal. The agreement will combine the local development and permission expertise of Greenvolt with the technical expertise of Bluefloat Energy in offshore floating wind. Portugal has been a pioneer in the deployment of floating offshore wind projects, which have been described as a critical pillar in the EU’s decarbonisation strategy. Portugal aims to have 10 GW of installed capacity by the end of this decade, and the most recent partnership is likely to aid in that effort.

In March 2023, BlueFloat Energy announced its plans to build Eastern Rise, a 1.7 GW floating offshore wind farm in Australia. The floating wind farm would be built in a proposed offshore wind zone in the Hunter Region, which had been announced by Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.
