Neogen collaborates with Japanese MUIS for lithium battery electrolytes

Neogen Chemicals, an Indian speciality chemicals producer has inked a technology licence deal with Japan’s MU Ionic Solutions (MUIS) to produce lithium-ion battery electrolytes. MU Ionic Solutions is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) and UBE Corporation and is part of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, a Japanese conglomerate.

The partnership will allow Neogen to verify that the manufacturing plant fulfils strict global requirements for electrolyte production quality, reliability, safety, and efficiency. It will also assist Neogen in significantly reducing approval timeframes with lithium-ion battery manufacturers.

According to the terms of the agreement, Neogen will get a licence to MUIS’s patented and confidential manufacturing technology to produce electrolyte solutions at its Indian manufacturing site. The Neogen facility is expected to have an installed capacity of up to 30,000 MT per year. Neogen will target these electrolytes to address the rising demand for lithium-ion cell producers in India.
