DVC to establish 2 GW of floating solar projects across its reservoirs

The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a state-owned company has estimated 2 GW of floating solar potential across reservoirs at its Maithon, Panchet, Tilaiya, and Konar dams in Jharkhand. The company has requested permission from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to build this capacity under the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPP) scheme. DVC has already received MNRE approval for 990 MW of the total 2 GW.

This capacity is expected to be spread across three reservoirs in a joint venture with NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL). DVC has signed an agreement with NTPC REL to develop renewable energy power parks in and around its dam reservoirs.

Recently in August 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NHPC Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited for the setting up of a Gigawatt scale vertically integrated solar manufacturing unit. The MoU was signed by the directors of both the companies.
