NTPC commissions 230 MW solar capacity in Ettayapuram, Tamil Nadu

NTPC Limited has completed the installation of 162.27 MW of solar capacity in Tamil Nadu. The plant is the first phase of NTPC’s 230 MW solar project in the Thoothukudi district of Ettayapuram. The Ettayapuram plant spans across roughly 900 acres of land and it comprises around 1.05 million solar panels. Larsen & Toubro is the EPC contractor of the project. The project’s commercial operation was on December 10, 2022.

The project provides power to Telangana discoms. The power generated by the plant is evacuated to Tuticorin-II, a gas-insulated substation of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited through a 19 km long, 230 kV transmission line built by NTPC. 

Recently in October 2022, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited called for domestic bids for setting up a cumulative 21 MW (AC) grid-connected solar capacity in Madhya Pradesh. It is planning to develop this capacity that will comprise two projects of 10.5 MW each. The project will be established for Bhopal Municipal Corporation in the Neemuch district.

Also in September 2022,NTPC Limited successfully commissioned the first 150 MW of the 300 MW Shambu ki Burj-2 Solar PV Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.
