Ørsted partners with universities to promote Vietnam’s offshore wind segment

Ørsted, a Danish energy company, has partnered with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) to promote Vietnam’s offshore wind industry. The partners intend to improve talent development and technical research for offshore wind in the area.

Furthermore, the two universities will concentrate on establishing new connections while transferring knowledge and supporting training for students and instructors to increase their competence in the offshore wind sector using funds and support from Ørsted. The partners also intend to establish a training, industrial development, and research and development (R&D) centre for offshore wind under the National Innovation Centre. HUST, one of the largest universities in Vietnam, is engaged in research, knowledge development and training in science, technology and engineering. On the other hand, DTU is considered to be a leading university for wind power research and Energy Systems education.

In October 2022, Ørsted sold a 50 per cent stake in an 862 MW renewable portfolio in the US to Energy Capital Partners (ECP) for around $410 million. The portfolio included the solar power plant Muscle Shoals as well as the onshore wind farms Lincoln Land Wind, Plum Creek Wind, and Willow Creek Wind. The renewable assets, which are spread across Illinois, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Alabama, are actively in operation and have either full or partial power purchase agreements in place.
