Vena Energy to construct 2 GW offshore wind project in Australia

Vena Energy, based in Singapore, plans to build the Marlin Offshore Wind Project, a 2 GW offshore power facility in Victoria, Australia. Located 23km from the Victorian Coast in the Gippsland Basin, the offshore wind site was first identified by the company in 2017.  According to Vena Energy, the project site will benefit from the strong offshore winds. The site’s construction projects are expected to start in 2028 and will be implemented in phases. The project will be developed by Vena Energy as a part of its Asia-Pacific (APAC) offshore wind portfolio.

Vena Energy stated that it promotes participation from local, regional, and Australian suppliers and supports local procurement policies. According to SELA, the project has the support of both the state and federal governments, which had helped create an internationally recognised offshore wind industry using existing infrastructure and skills. 

In September 2022, Vena Energy intended to start two offshore wind projects with a total capacity of 1.8 GW in order to participate in Taiwan’s Phase III Offshore Wind Zonal Development auction. The Wei-Na wind project would be outside Changhua County, while the Wei-Long wind project would be situated offshore from Miaoli County. The 600 MW Wei-Long project would cover a site area of 76 square km, whilst the 1.2 GW Wei-Na facility would occupy a space of about 126 square km.
