MNRE notifies extension of phase-II of grid-connected rooftop solar programme

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has notified the extension of phase-II of grid-connected rooftop solar programme. The programme has been extended till March 31, 2026. It does not have any additional financial implication that is the programme is within the originally approved total outlay worth Rs 118.14 billion for both Component A and Component B of the programme. However, any savings in the central financial assistance for residential sector (Component A) or incentives to discoms (Component B) after achieving the prescribed capacity target shall be utilised to support additional capacity in the residential sector (Component A).

Recently in October 2022, MNRE notified clarification on applicability of central financial assistance (CFA) available under Rooftop Solar (RTS) Programme Phase-II for solar systems installed under virtual net metering (VNM) arrangement. CFA will be provided for installation of RTS plants in the residential sector by individual households or by GHS/RWA’s. Some of the states and union territories have a provision of VNM wherein a group of consumers of the distribution company can install a solar plant within the area of the same company and avail benefits of net metering against the solar power fed into the grid from that solar plant.
