Mindtree, an Indian technology consulting firm has developed and implemented a digital command-and-control solution for Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) recently commissioned green hydrogen plant in Hazira, Gujarat. The company has curated the solution with its Internet of Things (IoT) data analytics platform – Insights NxT. The solution consists preventive and predictive data analytics capabilities which helps in allowing for real-time insights into plant performance and data-driven decision-making.
By increasing electrolyser efficiency and reducing downtime, the technology will help reduce the plant’s carbon footprint and improve its operational agility. The solution also enables remote monitoring and control of all plant services. This contributes in optimisation of its operational and energy costs as well as the effective utilisation of resources such as solar energy and battery energy storage systems.
L&T inaugurated a green hydrogen plant at its AM Naik heavy engineering complex at Hazira, Gujarat in August 2022. The plant will be responsible for generating 45 kg of green hydrogen daily for captive consumption in the company’s manufacturing complex. The plant is structured to have an electrolyser capacity of 800 kW, with 380 kW alkaline and 420 kW PEM technologies. The plant will be powered through a 990 kW peak DC rooftop solar plant and a 500 kWh battery energy storage system. A 380 kW alkaline electrolyser was installed as part of the first phase of the project, with a 420 kW PEM electrolyser and solar plant capacity augmentation to 1.6 MW peak DC planned for future expansion.
