MERC permits three discoms to buy green power through exchange linked contracts

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has instructed three distribution companies (discoms) to secure medium- and short-term power for their base load as soon as possible. It also permitted the proposal to mix bilateral power purchases at exchange-linked rates and power purchases from the Green Day Ahead Market, Day-Ahead Market, Green Term Ahead Market, Term Ahead Market, and Real Time Market till the financial year 2022-23.

Mindspace Business Parks, Gigaplex Estate, and KRC Infrastructure and Projects are the three discoms. The discoms had filed a petition seeking permission to purchase combined power at power exchange-linked rates beginning July 2022 until alternative arrangements could be made.

Recently in July 2022, the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency has released an expression of interest to estimate tariffs for the deployment of 10 MW grid connected rooftop solar photovoltaic systems. The rooftop solar projects will be installed on buildings of government institutions and offices across the state with a range between 10 kW to 500 kW.
