Hindalco Industries Limited, an Aditya Birla Group company, has inaugurated a 25 MW captive solar power plant at its Mahan aluminium smelting unit in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district. The facility will be used to generate power for organisational requirements as well as for aluminium production at the Mahan unit. The plant is expected to generate approximately 55 million units of electricity annually.
Recently in August 2022, Hindalco Industries and the Greenko Group agreed to establish a green energy project in Odisha with a capacity of 375 MW to 400 MW. Both companies have entered into a commercial agreement to establish a renewable energy project to supply 100 MW of carbon free power round the clock. The project will include wind and solar capacity and will provide power to Hindalco’s aluminium smelter in Odisha.
Also in July 2022, Hindalco signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Israel-based companies Phinergy and IOP to produce aluminium-air batteries for electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage. IOC Phinergy Private Limited is a joint venture between Phinergy and Indian Oil Corporation.
