NTPC agrees to supply renewable energy to Military Engineering Services

NTPC Limited has entered into an agreement to supply renewable energy to Military Engineering Services. This is the first agreement by the Indian armed forces for sourcing of renewable energy. This will help in gradually decarbonising the armed forces. A power purchase agreement for renewable energy from NTPC Solapur and power uses agreement for renewable energy from upcoming NTPC Khavda has been signed.

Recently in September 2022, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited, a subsidiary of the state-owned power producer NTPC Limited began requesting proposals from experienced developers to supply continuous renewable energy from solar, hydro, wind, pumped storage, battery energy storage, and hybrid power plants. The power supplies will be purchased over the medium to long term.

Also in the same month, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL) along with Avaada Energy were declared as winners in Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s auction. The project deals in the procurement of power from 500 MW of grid-connected inter or intrastate solar projects (Phase-VIII) on a long-term basis. NTPC REL secured a capacity of 200 MW by quoting a tariff of Rs 2.82 per kWh.
