Zinc8 to develop zinc-air batteries in the US

Zinc8 Energy Solutions has notified the development of its first commercial production facility in Ulster County, New York. According to the company’s study, the recently announced US Inflation Reduction Act facilitates manufacturing production credits that provide distinct and direct benefits to Zinc8 impacting its US production plans.

Zinc8 Energy Solutions has created a proprietary flow battery technology that it claims can deliver power ranging from 20 kW to 50 MW. These batteries can store and discharge energy for up to 100 hours. The advanced battery can be customised to support a wide range of long duration applications for microgrids, utilities, commercial and industrial projects. Scalability and increased capacity are achieved by increasing the size of zinc particle storage tanks.

Unlike lithium-ion technology that requires new stacks to scale, Zinc8 claims to deploy completely decoupled energy power links. According to the manufacturer, the technology promises zero capacity fade over a long lifetime wherein the batteries are non-flammable, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly with stable supply chains for mass production.
