L&T inaugurates hydrogen facility in Gujarat

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has inaugurated a green hydrogen plant at its AM Naik heavy engineering complex at Hazira, Gujarat. The plant will be responsible for generating 45 kg of green hydrogen daily for captive consumption in the company’s manufacturing complex. The plant is structured to have an electrolyser capacity of 800 kW, with 380 kW Alkaline and 420 kW PEM technologies. The plant will be powered through a 990 kW peak DC rooftop solar plant and a 500 kWh battery energy storage system. A 380 kW Alkaline electrolyser was installed as part of the first phase of the project, with a 420 kW PEM electrolyser and solar plant capacity augmentation to 1.6 MW peak DC planned for future expansion.

The plant spans over 3,000 square metres and the first phase of the project has been installed, tested, and commissioned. The scope of the project includes the production of high purity green hydrogen and oxygen, as well as their captive consumption in the manufacturing shops.

This venture is in line with L&T’s Lakshya 2026 climate leadership targets, which will help alleviate the company’s and its client’s greenhouse gas footprint by approximately 300 tonnes per year. Furthermore, L&T has pledged to achieve water neutrality by 2035 and carbon neutrality by 2040 as part of its ESG commitments.
