MNRE extends timeline for SPV inverters under Quality Control Order, 2017

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the Quality Control Order, 2017 for SPV inverters (items 4-5) from June 30,2022 to December 31,2022 based on self-certification. This extension has been done due to availability of limited test facilities and for providing more time for compliance for implementing the order. This has been done subject to the condition that manufacturers should have valid IEC certificates corresponding to IS (IS 16221(Part 2):2015/IEC 62109-2:2011 for item number 4 and IS 16169:2014/IEC 62116:2008) for item number 5. Also, test reports from accredited test labs should be there for smooth implementation of the order.

Central Government had issued guidelines for “Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017” vide S.O. 2920 on September 5, 2017 for six products included in the schedule. The guidelines had a list of different tests to determine technical and operational issues of the components.

In August 2022, MNRE released an expression of interest to promote innovation in the solar pumping sector. The aim was to enable innovators to showcase their technologies in real field conditions. The MNRE will be shortlisting the promising technologies with variable claims for improved parameters and allow the selected innovators to install solar pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme.
