NTPC floats tenders for solar and battery energy storage projects in Cuba

NTPC has issued a request for qualification (RfQ) to select developers to set up 1,150 MW grid-connected solar power projects across 175 locations in Cuba. Also, a tender for 150 MW/150 MWh battery energy storage systems has been released for three locations in Cuba.Under the International Solar Alliance’s Program-6, NTPC was appointed as the project management consultant for 900 MW of solar projects to be developed in 175 locations across 15 provinces in Cuba (ISA).

The 1,150 MW project will be divided into three buckets of around 300 MW each and tendered as a whole. A bidder can participate either in one, two, or all three blocks with a capacity of at least 50 MW. The bidder who offers the minimum tariff for a 50 MW project in a block will be chosen as L1. Remaining bidders will be listed as L2 and L3 based upon tariffs offered by them.

Recently in July 2022, NTPC Ltd signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with NITI Aayog to create NTPC’s net zero GHG emissions Roadmap. The SoI intends to formalise a framework of collaboration between the parties to assist NTPC in strategising for expanding its generation mix to lower its carbon footprint.
