The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) has issued a request for proposals to install and commission 2 MW of rooftop solar systems over Lucknow metro project’s depots and stations. The tender has a ceiling tariff of Rs 4.50 per kWh. Each project should range in size from 10 kW to 400 kW. The project must be executed within nine months following the acceptance letter. Recently in July 2022, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited floated a tender to set up 20 MW of grid–connected rooftop solar systems across its stations and depot buildings. The rooftop solar projects will be set up under the renewable energy service company model.
In April 2022, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMPL) completed the installation of a 1.8 MW solar power plant at its Muttom coach depot. KMPL declared that the electricity is assisting the metro operator in meeting 51 per cent of its overall power requirements from solar energy following its commissioning. Over the years, the fallow area near the Muttom depot has been used for setting up solar plants. The new solar facility has increased the total installed capacity of solar power to 9.9 MW. The project will be expanded to a total capacity of 10.5 MW.
