Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has successfully commissioned a 100 MW floating solar photovoltaic plant at NTPC Ramagundam in Telangana. The components used in the solar plant will be indigenous contributing to the government’s “Make in India” campaign.
According to the press release of the company, the plant is installed across the natural raw water reservoir. The location of the plant at the reservoir would help in conserving valuable land and water resource. The plant will use creatively designed layouts for the solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, electricals, and floaters to protect the aquatic ecosystem while producing clean power.
In July 2022, BHEL issued a tender for supplying 10.27 million monocrystalline passivated emitter and rear contact solar cells. These solar cells must have wattage output of 5.38 W. The tender guidelines outline the eligible solar cell composition briefly. In June 2022, BHEL issued two tenders for the supply of monocrystalline passivated emitter and rear contact solar modules for solar projects totaling 4.16 MW at two thermal power plants in Uttar Pradesh.
