100 kW EV charging station to be installed in Tamil Nadu

At the Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency is installing a 100-kW solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station. This would be an automated EV charging station where vehicles can be charged without any need for human interaction. The move is supported by Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiatives, a state-led project overseen by the State Planning Commission.

In the available space for charging, about 15 automobiles may be charged at the same time. The decision to establish the charging station was made following the agency’s successful pilot run of a 25 kW EV charging station to charge a few state EVs. The charging station will cost Rs 10 million for deployment.

Recently, Statkraft, a Norwegian renewable energy company announced the completion of its first large-scale solar power project in Tamil Nadu in May 2022. The project is a 76 MW Nellai solar project in Ettanakulam, Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district which is now live.
