Karnataka government, NITI Aayog, UK government to launch portal for EV awareness

Karnataka has established ‘EV Jagruthi’, an electric vehicle awareness portal that would help accelerate adoption and promote a cleaner transport sector in the southern state. Karnataka’s Minister of Energy and the British High Commissioner to India jointly inaugurated the portal. The platform was also built in collaboration between the Karnataka government, the NITI Aayog, and the UK government.

Reportedly, the website is designed to act as a “one-stop portal” for customers, disseminating all relevant information about EV adoption. Furthermore, information on Karnataka’s EV targets, incentives, and programmes, as well as state-specific information about electric vehicles, can assist customers in making the switch to cleaner means of transportation.

Karnataka currently has the third highest number of EV registrations in India, following Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. EV registrations in Karnataka surpassed 100,000 in April 2022, despite the fact that the state does not provide any subsidies for EV purchases within the state.
