EDF Renewables wins NYSERDA’s solar and storage contract

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has awarded EDF Renewables North America a 1 GW solar and battery storage contract as part of its 2021 solicitation for large-scale renewable energy certificates. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre and Ridge View Solar Energy Centre, each with 350 MWac of capacity and 20 MW of co-located battery storage, are among the solar projects included in the contract. The Columbia Solar Energy Centre is in Herkimer County, in the towns of Columbia and Litchfield, while the Ridge View Solar Energy Centre is in Hartland, Niagara County.

The Rich Road Solar Energy Centre, located in Canton, St. Lawrence County, is the third solar plant with a 20 MW co-located storage facility. As per the company’s statement, the projects make up almost 40 per cent of the total 2,408 MW awarded in the solicitation. By the end of 2025, the three solar plants should be able to provide clean electricity. They will generate enough clean energy to power over 243,000 average New York households while reducing carbon emissions by over 880,000 million tonnes per year.

In May 2022, CS Energy signed an MoU with EDF Renewables for the construction of the 230 MW Banana Range Wind Farm in Central Queensland. The Banana Range Wind Farm, which would be in the Biloela region, would be able to generate enough clean energy to power 15,000 homes. During the construction phase, the project is planned to provide 150 jobs. Construction on the site is set to begin in 2024, with the project slated to be completed in 2026.
