Aditya Birla, Hinduja Renewables, and SJVN emerge as winners in GUVNL’s solar auction

Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam’s (GUVNL) auction to develop 500 MW of solar projects under Phase XIV with a greenshoe option of up to 500 MW of additional capacity was won by Aditya Birla (ABREL SPV 2), Hinduja Renewables Energy, and SJVN (Tranche-XIV). Both Aditya Birla and Hinduja Renewables Energy secured 300 MW and 120 MW, respectively, at a tariff of Rs 2.30 per kWh. At Rs 2.31 per kWh, SJVN was allocated 80 MW out of a total capacity of 200 MW. GUVNL plans to purchase solar power to meet its renewable power purchase obligation (RPPO) and distribution company needs. The tender was floated in April 2022.

As per the tender guidelines, the winning bidders will be responsible for approvals, permits, and clearances, as well as connectivity and land registration. The project should be designed to supply energy to GETCO’s periphery. The winning bidders will be responsible for getting grid connectivity with GETCO or the central transmission utility (CTU). Solar projects will be allowed in existing grid-connected wind farms if spare capacity for renewable energy integration is accessible at relevant GETCO or CTU substations.

In May 2022, GUVNL requested proposals to purchase power from 500 MW of grid-connected wind power projects (Phase-IIl) through a competitive bidding process, with a greenshoe option for an additional 500 MW capacity. The bid submission deadline is June 15, 2022. As per the tender guidelines, to be eligible for the bidding process, the bidders must submit a Rs 1 million earnest money deposit per MW (inclusive of 18 per cent GST).
