Statkraft, a Norwegian renewable energy company, has announced the completion of its first large-scale solar power project in India. The 76 MW Nellai solar project in Ettanakulam, Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district, is now live. The Nellai Solar Park is a 55 MW (AC) and 76 MW (DC) project constructed on approximately 200 acres of land in Ettanakulam village, Manur Taluk, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, India.
The Nellai solar project is expected to produce 120 GWh of green energy per year, enough to power over 500,000 homes across the country. As per the company’s statement, the Tirunelveli construction site was chosen because it receives strong solar irradiance, making it suitable for solar and wind power projects. The solar plant’s construction was completed by Belectric Photovoltaic India Private Limited, which will also provide operations and maintenance services for the next three years.
Statkraft is a Norwegian state-owned company that has been doing business in India since 2004. In India, it currently has a power-producing capacity of 215 MW. Statkraft is constructing the Tidong hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh, which is expected to be finished by the end of 2022.
