Four winners in SECI’s 1.2 GW wind auction

The winners of the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction (Tranche-XII) for the 1.2 GW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects are NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, Halvad Renewables (EDF Renewables), JSW Neo Energy, and Torrent Power. NTPC Renewables won 200 MW for Rs 2.89 per kWh, while EDF won 300 MW for Rs 2.93 per kWh. JSW and Torrent Power were awarded 300 MW each at Rs 2.94 per kWh.

Evergreen quoted 40 MW out of 140 MW at Rs 2.98 per kWh, whereas SJVN quoted 60 MW at Rs 2.97 per kWh and did not qualify. The lowest tariff of Rs 2.89 per kWh is roughly 7.4 per cent higher than the Tranche XI auction’s lowest tariff of Rs 2.69 per kWh. The tender was issued in October 2021.

In May 2022, the winners of the SECI’s auction to develop 1,200 MW of ISTS-connected wind-solar hybrid projects (Tranche-V) across India were Tata Power, Amp Energy, NTPC, and SJVN. With a quoted tariff of Rs 2.53 per kWh, Tata Power won a capacity of 600 MW. NTPC won 450 MW and Amp Energy won 120 MW of capacity. Under the bucket filling method, SJVN quoted Rs 2.54 per kWh for 200 MW but was only awarded 30 MW of capacity.
