Azure Power commissions its 90 MW solar power project in Assam

Azure Power, a renewable energy company, has announced that its 90 MW solar power project in Assam has been successfully commissioned. The solar capacity of 90 MW is spread across four Assam districts: Udalguri, Kamrup, Nagaon, and Cachar. Reportedly, the solar power installation was commissioned in phases. The final phase of 25 MW has been commissioned in Cachar. The plant’s power is supplied to Assam Power Distribution Company Limited under a long term 25 year power purchase agreement at a rate of Rs 3.34 per KWh.

The Assam government has set aside Rs 40 billion in its budget for 2022-23 to set up solar power plants under the Mukhyamantri Souro Shakti Prokolpo to enhance clean energy generation in the state. The combined capacity of the proposed solar projects in Assam will be 1000 MW. By 2022, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has also allocated 250 MW of grid connected solar rooftop projects in Assam. Azure Power owns and operates about 2,900 MW of renewable energy assets across India.

In April 2022, Azure Power signed an expression of interest with the Karnataka government to develop solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 1,700 MW. A total of Rs 133 billion has been committed to be invested.
