As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Programme, the Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, along with the Minister of State for Power, launched the Virtual Smart Grid Knowledge Center (Virtual SGKC) and Innovation Park virtually. Officials from the Ministry of Power (MOP), POWERGRID, the National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM), and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) attended the meeting. State leaders, distribution companies, industry, academia, and international institutions from India and across the world took part virtually in the event. POWERGRID established the SGKC within its premises with cooperation from the MOP and NSGM to demonstrate and advance cutting-edge smart grid technologies.
The newly launched Virtual SGKC provides a digital footprint of the physical setup of SGKC, which was needed during the COVID-19 epidemic. Currently, the platform hosts over 50 solutions from over 30 technology partners across eight thematic areas, including new and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, IoT, and more. This platform also serves the solutions that are physically present at SGKC’s Manesar headquarters. This comprises advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), smart houses, microgrids, and the Outage Management System (OMS), among other things.
