SJVN to develop 400 MW solar park in Himachal Pradesh

The responsibility for the development of a 400 MW solar park in Upper Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, has been awarded to Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has granted its in-principle approval for the development of this solar park under the solar park scheme’s Mode-8 or ultra mMega renewable energy power parks. The preliminary survey and investigation for the solar park were completed by HIMURJA. As per the reports, the company will prepare and submit the detailed project report (DPR) at the earliest, in accordance with the solar park scheme’s timelines.

SJVN Limited is already engaged on a DPR for the Kaza Solar Park in Himachal Pradesh, which will have an output of 880 MW. As per the company’s statement, it will be done in accordance with the Power Grid Corporation of India’s plan for building a 400 KV transmission line to evacuate solar power generated in the area. Apart from being environmentally beneficial, the development of these solar parks will bring with it a slew of economic activities, community and infrastructural facilities, including several direct and indirect job opportunities for communities.

Earlier this month, Creduce Technologies-Hydel Consultants Private Limited joint venture won the bid for India’s single largest hydro power carbon credits project with SJVN Limited. SJVN Limited’s vintage project will result in the development of more than 80 million carbon credits. The carbon credit initiative is expected to bring in about $100 million in revenue for the state-owned enterprise.
