NTPC Limited is appointing consultants for the third verification of verified carbon standard (VCS)-registered solar and wind power projects from October 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021. A tender has been released for the same and the bid submission deadline is March 2, 2022. As per the tender guidelines, to participate in the competitive bidding process, bidders must have previous experience of providing consulting services to verify renewable energy projects under the VCS or CDM programmes. Bidders must have completed verification of at least one or more renewable energy projects under the VCS, CDM, or Global Carbon Council (GCC) programme in the last seven years.
The winning bidder needs to cover all assistance to NTPC during the verification of 610 MW of solar and wind projects listed below :

The VCS programme is a global voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction initiative that includes over 1,775 accredited VCS projects that have helped to reduce over 865 million tonnes of carbon and other GHG emissions. VCS programmes span a wide range of industries, including renewable energy and forestry. Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) are transferable GHG credits that are issued to project developers once they have been validated under the VCS Program. Companies can purchase VCUs on the open market to offset their carbon emissions. This helps renewable energy initiatives and technology get funding.
