CESL floats a tender for the procurement of 5,450 electric buses

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EEL), has floated a tender for the procurement, operation, and maintenance of 5,450 electric buses, 135 double-decker electric buses, and allied electric and civil infrastructure on a gross cost contract through the ‘Grand Challenge’ programme. The EESL’s ‘Grand Challenge’ programme identified a set of homogeneous demand for electric buses in major cities including as Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Surat.

The programme intends to assist communities in lowering public transportation operating costs and making e-bus procurement simpler. CEL has stated that preference will be given to micro and small enterprises (MSEs). Out of the total quantity, 25 per cent has been earmarked for MSEs. Of this, 4 per cent and 3 per cent have been allocated for procurement from MSEs owned by Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), and MSEs owned by women entrepreneurs. The bid submission deadline is March 7, 2022.

In October 2021, CESL invited expressions of interest to empanel financial institutions which can finance electric vehicles (EVs). CESL would appoint authorised and certified financial institutions to provide the user with a financing solution for their preferred EV.
