Azelio unveils electrothermal storage system for commercial applications

Azelio has unveiled the TES.POD system, a revolutionary electro-thermal storage system for commercial applications. The system has a nominal electrical output of 13 kW and dimensions 2.810 x 2.67 x 3.65 metre. The storage capacity of one unit is 165 kWh. The system works in four steps. It is first charged with electricity from a renewable energy source, which is then stored as heat in a recycled aluminium alloy with a phase transition at 600 degrees Celsius. The heat is then sent to a Stirling engine, a closed-cycle regenerative heat engine with a persistent gaseous working fluid. The engine produces usable heat in the range of 55-65 degrees Celsi­us, as well as po­w­er that can be used on demand at any hour of the day. Its modular design allows it to install projects with a capacity of up to 100 MW. The thermal storage provides 13 hours of electricity at continuous operating power. The system has a 30-year lifespan and requires no replacements or downtime during maintenance. As per a company statement, the product is particularly suitable for commercial and industrial applications in unstable or off-grid regions with an economically feasible renewable baseload source.
