Five winners in SECI’s 2.5 GW round-the-clock auction

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has awarded capacities to Hindustan Thermal Projects, Greenko Energies, ReNew Samir Urja, Power Mech Projects and JSW Neo Energy in its auction for supply of 2.5 GW of round-the-clock (RTC) power from grid-connected renewable energy projects, complemented with power from coal-based thermal projects. The lowest tariff quoted in this tender was Rs 3.01 per kWh by Hindustan Thermal Projects.

According to the request for selection (RfS) document, bidders must match the L1 pricing in order for the Letter of Award to be issued.  Greenko Energies quoted a capacity of 1,001 MW at a pricing of Rs 3.18 per kWh, while Hindustan Thermal Projects won a capacity of 250 MW at a tariff of Rs 3.01 per kWh. 600 MW and 550 MW were quoted at Rs 3.19 per kWh and Rs 3.30 per kWh, respectively, by ReNew Samir Urja and Power Mech Projects. Under the bucket filling method, JSW Neo quoted 600 MW for a capacity of 99 MW at Rs 3.45 per kWh. The tender for the delivery of 5 GW of RTC power from grid-connected renewable power projects in the country, coupled with power from coal-based thermal projects in the country, was announced in March 2020.  In August 2020, SECI issued amendments to the tender documents wherein the capacity was halved to 2.5 GW.
