Amp Energy India has installed a 2.4 MW solar power plant at Pondicherry University in the union territory of Puducherry. The project, is spread across 15 buildings, two parking lots, and two land parcels on the university campus. It has been developed under the 97.5MW rooftop scheme by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Pondicherry University and Amp Energy India have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) under this scheme for procurement of solar power for a period of 25 years.
Pondicherry University expects to benefit from reduced energy costs and will contribute to reducing emissions of around 2,900 tons of carbon dioxide every year. The plant is expected to be instrumental in supplying solar energy to meet about 40 per cent of the university’s energy needs.
Amp India has commissioned solar projects for School of Planning and Architecture, National Law University, Bhopal and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior among others.
