NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (REL) has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for 325 MW of solar power projects at Shajapur Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh. It has won a capacity of 105 MW worth Rs 2.35 per unit, and also a capacity of 220 MW worth Rs 2.33 per unit in the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar’s auction for 450 MW of solar projects at Shajapur Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh. With this, NTPC has achieved 4.4 GW capacity through tariff-based competitive bidding.
The LoA was presented to Agar, Shajapur, and Neemuch solar park with a capacity of 1,500 MW at Bhopal. State discoms and Indian Railways would be purchasing power from these projects.
At present, the state-run NTPC Ltd has a renewable energy (RE) portfolio of 1,350 MW. It plans to add an additional 13,000 MW of RE by financial year 2024. NTPC has also doubled its renewable energy target from 32 GW to 60 GW of wind and solar power by 2032. As the government has announced its intention to not commission any new thermal power plants, a transition towards green energy is crucial for the power utility.
