ABB expands manufacturing capacity for low voltage motors

ABB has announced the expansions of its current capacity for manufacturing of low voltage motors, adding a new manufacturing line at its Faridabad plant. According to the company’s statement, the Faridabad facility has been in the forefront of promoting sustainable practices, including the use of renewable energy and the improvement of energy efficiency across the plant.

In India, ABB manufactures premium efficiency motors that satisfy the IE4 standard, which requires energy losses that are 15 per cent lower than those supplied by IE3 motors. As per the report, the expansion is expected to increase plant capacity by more than 20 per cent and improve ABB’s presence in the region and globally. Furthermore, the new line is also expected to produce energy-efficient motors of up to 55kW for clients in various industrial areas such as food and beverage, water and wastewater, cement, metals and mining, HVAC, textiles, rubber, and others.

In June 2021, ABB and Swiss utility Axpo announced a partnership to develop modular green hydrogen production plants in Italy. The two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect and aim to develop a feasible business model of producing affordable, green hydrogen. They will work together on feasibility studies and assess ways to reduce costs while ensuring a low carbon footprint.
