ReNew Power has signed a memorandum of understanding with RackBank Datacenters Ltd to provide power generated from renewable sources to India’s first hyper-scale data center. The data center will be powered with 100 per cent renewable energy. The green power would be purchased using open access mechanism.
As per the agreement, ReNew Power will construct, co-own and operate a hybrid power generation facility that will supply renewable power specifically to RackBank’s data center under a power purchase agreement. The data center spans over 35,000 sq ft with a capacity of 800 racks and growing. To ensure that the data center operates on net-zero emissions, ReNew Power will also sell green credits to RackBank to offset its non-renewable power consumption. The project will be carried out and managed by ReNew Green Solutions, a part of ReNew Power.
RackBank is a data center platform providing services like dedicated servers, managed servers and colocation services, among others. It has a vision to establish 500 MW of IT infrastructure capacity over the next five years. ReNew Power is a leading renewable energy independent power producer (IPP) in India. This partnership is expected to reduce RackBank’s power cost by 30 per cent compared to power consumption directly from the grid. It will also result in India’s first green data center.
