Vikram Solar inaugurates its 1.3 GW module manufacturing unit in Chennai

Vikram Solar, a leading Indian module manufacturer and comprehensive EPC solutions and rooftop solar provider,has announced the setting up of a new solar PV module manufacturing facility. The 1.3 GW manufacturing unit is located at Indospace Industrial Park, Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. This new unit takes the company’s total module manufacturing capacity to 2.5 GW with an already operating 1.2 GW facility in Falta, West Bengal. The company has shipped over 3.5 GW solar modules globally.Vikram Solar has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government of Tamil Nadu last year to set up a 3 GW manufacturing facility for solar wafers, cells, and modules.According to the company, this initiative is in line with the government’s programme of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently issued guidelines for the implementation of Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme ‘National Programme on High Efficiency Solar PV Modules’ for achieving manufacturing capacity of GW-scale. Through this scheme the MNRE aims to promote manufacturing of high efficiency solar PV modules in India and thus reduce import dependence in renewable energy. The PLI scheme will be implemented by MNRE through Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency as the implementing agency.
