Rajasthan permits net metering for rooftop solar projects commissioned till September 2021

The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) Commission has issued a modification to its Grid Interactive Distributed Renewable Energy Generating SystemsRegulations, 2021 that were notified in April 2021. According to the recent changes, all rooftop solar and small grid interactive systems commissioned under net metering agreements upto September 15, 2021, shall continue to operate under the net metering arrangement till the period of connection agreement. The commissioning deadline earlier was June 30, 2021.

RERC received requests from various stakeholders to extend the date at least by three months as implementation of the projects under the different execution stages have come to a haltdue to second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. Further, Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited (RRECL) had also written a letter to the commissionrequesting for extension of the timeline owing to delays on account of the pandemic. Moreover, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE) has also recently granted a time extension in scheduled commissioning date of the renewable energy projects considering disruption due to the second surge of the pandemic. The period of disruption was identified as ranging from April 1, 2021 to June 15, 2021 and the projects will be given an extension of the equivalent period of about two and a half months.
