NTPC invites EoI for setting up of 1,000 MWh of battery storage system

NTPC Limited has invited expression of interest (EoI) from any Indian or global company to setup 1,000 MWh of grid-scale battery energy storage system at a single NTPC location or splitacross multiple NTPCpower plants in India. After identification of interested applicants, a separate request for proposal shall be invited for setting up these facilities. According to the EoI document, the last date for submission of EoI is August 10, 2021, and the date of opening of EoI response is August 11, 2021. Further, NTPC is looking for complete end-to-end solution from eligible applicants for these energy storage facilities. This would include storage plant, power conversion system, balance ofplant, and battery management system including software solution for optimised operation of the storage system.

With this EoI, NTPC aims to assess the commercialisation prospects of setting up grid-scale battery energy storage system. NTPC believes that to get more benefits from the storage system and justify the high costs, multiple synergic applications should be explored. Thus, through this EoI, NTPCaims to explore the specific grid servicesthrough energy storage systems whichcould be technically feasible and profitable.Further, it also aims to investigate the various business models as well as investment plans for development of battery energy storage systems for different applications.
