CESL and Ladakh administration partner to make the union territory carbon neutral

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and the Administration of Union Territory (UT) of Ladakhhave signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make Ladakh clean and green. Under this MoU, various clean energy and energy efficiency programmes will be implemented and CESL will execute solar mini, micro-grid solutions, energyefficient lighting, battery storage solutions, energyefficient cooking stoves, and electric mobility solutions in the UT of Ladakh. Further, a pilot project will be installed in the Zanskar valley area. Moreover, CESL will build the EV ecosystem for the UT. This will focuse on EV charging infrastructure based on renewable energy as well as high altitude electric vehicles.

Based on innovative business models using carbon credits, the programmewill be supported by

the Administration of UT of Ladakh in terms of investment in projects, including the pilot. Based on the success of the Zanskar pilot in terms of feasibility and outcomes, similar projects will be taken up in other areas as well. Further,the UT administration will also assist in business development of various clean energy and sustainability programmes of CESL, while the requisite land in respective council areas will be provided bythe Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil/Leh.
