REMCL invited bids to set up a 15 MW solar project with a 7 MW/14 MWh battery energy storage system in Nagpur, Maharashtra

The Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) has invited bids to set up a 15 MW solar project with a 7 MW/14 MWh battery energy storage system on railway land at Butibori, Nagpur. REMCL is a joint venture of the Indian Railways and Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited. According to the documents, a power purchase agreement of 25 years will be signed with the developer to supply energy at the tariff discovered. The bid submission deadline is August 9, 2021.

In December 2020, REMCL launched a tender for the development of a grid-connected solar power pilot project with an energy storage system. The pilot project was to be installed on vacant railway land of approximately 90 acres at Dahod, Gujarat. Based on the outcomes of the project, the Indian Railways had decided on scaling up storage-based solar projects across the railway network.

In July 2020, REMCL issued a tender for setting up 1 GW of solar power projects along railway tracks across India. The scope of work for the project included the design, construction, financing, operation, long-term maintenance, and transfer of solar assets. In November 2020, RITES limited announced a relaunch of its tender to develop 1 GW of solar capacity on vacant railway land after the first tender did not attract sufficient interest.
