The Ministry of Defense has invited expressions of interest (EoI)for the development of a combined ground-mounted and grid-connected floating solar project on a turnkey basis at the Cordite Factory in Aruvankadu, Tamil Nadu. Developers will be required to set up the projects on designated lakes and lands in the area. 4,200 square meters of land and 11,700 square meters of the area of the lake has been allotted for the solar capacities. The winning bidders must develop the project with a three-phase inverter and carry out civil work for grid connections. In addition to obtaining approvals from the state distribution company, the developer must also carry out comprehensive maintenance services for five years. Bidders are eligible if they have prior experience in designing, supplying, erecting, and commissioning similar projects in India or anywhere in the world. No earnest money deposit was specified and the deadline for submission of the expressions of interest is January 31, 2021.
As of December 2020, the Ministry of Defense has issued 41.45 MW of solar power projects for its ordnance factories. The Cordite Factory at Aruvankadumanufactures propellants using Nitrocellulose and Nitroglycerine with other ingredients works under the Ministry of Defence.
The Military Engineer Services have also issued several solar tenders in the past year. The agency, in December 2020, invited bids for the engineering, procurement, and construction of 1.5 MW of grid-connected solar capacity at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. In October 2020, MES had invited bids for 3MW of solar projects at two locations with 1.5MW at each location in Leh, Ladakh.
