MNRE extends deadlines for renewable energy projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has granted a five-month extension to renewable projects under development. The extension will be given for the period from March 25, 2020 to August 24, 2020. This has been done due to the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic. This blanket extension, if invoked by the developers, will be given without case to case examination and no documents or evidence will be asked for such extension. The blanket extension will apply to developers, engineering, procurement and construction companies as well as original equipment manufacturers.

Earlier MNRE had issued a clarification for extension of renewable energy project timelines, which was a 68-day time extension from March 25, 2020 to May 31, 2020. The renewable energy projects were to be treated as a force majeure event, due to the coronavirus outbreak. Further, the MNRE also clarified that the timelines for intermediate milestones of a project may also be extended within the extended time provided for commissioning.
