The MNRE has granted a five-month extension to renewable energy projects under development. The extension will be given for the period from March 25, 2020 to August 24, 2020. This has been done to minimise the impact of Covid-19. This will be a blanket extension and there will be no requirement of case to case examination and documents or evidence. It will apply to developers, engineering, procurement and construction companies and original equipment manufacturers. The lockdown period due to the coronavirus outbreak will be treated as a force majeure event. Earlier, the MNRE had issued a clarification for the lockdown period considered for extension of renewable energy project timelines. This was a 68-day time extension from March 25, 2020 to May 31, 2020. Further, the MNRE clarified that the timelines for intermediate milestones of a project may be extended.
